Student Wellbeing at Ivanhoe Primary School

At Ivanhoe Primary School, we understand that children learn best when they feel safe, valued, and connected to their school community. Wellbeing is not treated as a separate subject—it’s woven into the fabric of everyday learning. Through a whole-school approach and carefully selected programs, we support students in developing the social and emotional skills that help them thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Our wellbeing initiatives are designed to grow with students, offering age-appropriate opportunities to build resilience, understand themselves and others, and form respectful relationships. These experiences are part of our broader commitment to nurturing curious, reflective, and respectful learners—young people who are confident in who they are and considerate in how they engage with the world around them.

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)

This Department of Education initiative helps students develop emotional literacy, resilience, and respectful relationships. Through structured lessons, children learn to:

  • Understand and manage their emotions

  • Communicate effectively and solve problems

  • Recognise and celebrate diversity

  • Develop confidence and a sense of fairness

The RRRR program supports a whole-school culture of respect and safety and aligns with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.

Additional Support

The school maintains a strong partnership with our local Department of Education Student Support Services via regular meetings with our health and wellbeing key contact. These services allow schools to refer students for support in a variety of areas, including:

  • psychologists

  • speech pathologists

  • social workers

  • occupational therapists

  • behaviour analysts.

They work closely with other health wellbeing workforces, school improvement workforces and school staff to support schools in assisting children and young people facing barriers to learning to achieve their educational and developmental potential.

SSS staff work as part of an integrated health and wellbeing team within each area, focusing on providing:

  • workforce capability building for school staff

  • group-based and individual support

  • the provision of specialised services.

**We are extremely fortunate to have onsite, in a part time capacity, a psychologist who works directly with students and their families via an internal referral process.

This program provides teachers with expert-led, age-appropriate resources focused on:

  • Respectful relationships and communication

  • Understanding personal boundaries

  • Body safety and healthy development

Designed specifically for primary-aged students, the content is delivered in a way that encourages curiosity, confidence, and care. Teachers are supported with professional learning, and families are kept informed through accessible resources.

These programs are part of our commitment to helping students grow into thoughtful, resilient individuals. They:

  • Equip children with practical skills for managing emotions and relationships

  • Encourage empathy, inclusion, and respectful behaviour

  • Support early understanding of personal safety and help-seeking

  • Reflect our values as a school community and align with national wellbeing frameworks

By embedding these programs into everyday learning, we’re helping students build the confidence and awareness they need to navigate the world around them with care and respect.
