School History
Ivanhoe Primary has a rich history dating back to 1853 when a timber school building was erected on the corner of Waterdale Road and Upper Heidelberg Road. In 1881 the school moved to the site currently occupied by the Ivanhoe Post Office. The Impressive, well maintained red brick building in Waterdale Road the school now occupies was built in 1923 thereby making it the third building children attending the school have occupied.
The school is sited near the Ivanhoe Civic Centre, the shopping centre and the railway station. The school has developed attractive, well-treed grounds, an art/craft centre, a fully computerised multi media resource centre, a music facility, a LOTE room, a canteen and a spacious multi-purpose room. Twelve portable classrooms supplement the large main building.
Ivanhoe P.S. has provided the local community with a high quality education program for over 150 years and will continue to do so in the twenty-first century.
The school’s history book, ‘Slab Hut to Red Brick’ is available from the school office for $20. Contact the office on 9499 1880 for details.
