Music Program

In addition to the weekly one hour session students are able to participate in a number of groups, ensembles and individual and small group lessons.

Classroom Music – All students one hour per week.

Strings Program (Fees apply)

Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass

  • Individual and small group lessons available to students in year three to six.
  • A.M.E.B. exams, coordinated by the Strings Director.
  • Grade Two Strings – 8.20 – 9am Two mornings a week
  • Corelli Strings – Grade Three Ensemble once a week 8.15 – 9am
  • Orchestra – Years Four to Six once a week 8 – 9am

Sarah Holden's Instrumental Music Services (S.H.I.M.S.) (Fees apply)

Brass, Woodwind, Bass Guitar, Drums

  • Individual and group sessions during school hours (Thursday and Friday)
  • S.H.I.M.S. ensemble – 8.15 – 9am each Thursday

Creative Music (Fees apply)

Creative music is a private company which has provided guitar, keyboard, woodwind and vocal lessons to students in an after school hours program for many years.

Rock Bands

An extensive rock program is run during lunch times and through the year six classroom program. Occasionally rock bands in other year levels are formed for special occasions.

Extended Recorder Ensemble

Descants, Trebles, Tenors and Bass recorders rehearse once a week as an extension to the classroom music program.

Choirs

There are two choirs at Ivanhoe Primary. It is compulsory for all year four students to attend a half hour session once a week. This gives children a sample of choir techniques and skills. Senior Choir is for students in years five and six and is a one hour session per week during school hours. Children with the interest and skills are free to join but must commit to remaining in the choir for the duration of the year.

Junior School Concert

Each year there is a performance opportunity for all students in years Prep to Three. The format and venues for each concert varies from year to year.

Celebrating Music

Our major concert for students in years Four to Six is held at the Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School Performing Arts Centre each November and showcases the choirs, orchestra, small ensembles and talented individual soloists. Each year we feature a Grand Finale where all choirs and instrumentalists come together for a fun final item.
